RECORDS THAT WON’T BE BROKEN. I’ve got to stay with college basketball after another exciting period of March Madness came to a close. I can assure you that you can bet the mortgage that this hoops record will stand the test of time.

The record I’m referring to is the college basketball coach with the most national championships. That belongs to University of Connecticut Head Women’s Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma who now has 12 titles after winning the 2025 Final Four over a 30 year span all at UConn. The closest of all the active women’s coaches is Kim Mulkey at LSU with 4 and Dawn Staley with 3 at South Carolina.

If you’re wondering if, on the Men’s side, there’s a coach with more titles. Well, that’s not happening. Legendary UCLA mentor John Wooden retired with 10 titles to his name. Of current head honchos Bill Self at Kansas along with Dan Hurley at Connecticut plus Rick Pitino at St. Johns are leading the pack with two each.

So, do the math. The active women’s coaches at the top of the pile must collect another 8 or 9 national championship banners. The active men’s mentors must put up 10. Those two statements are assuming that Coach Auriemma doesn’t capture #13 or more.

There you have it. Nobody is going to post dozen just to tie Coach Geno who is the GOAT of NCAA college basketball coaches when it comes to National Championship hardware. Drop the mic.

Book it Dano.
